Want to break into the film and TV industries?

Making your own and collaborating with others on short films is a great way to gain experience in the media industry. Plus it gives you first hand experience of working with others in a crew situation.

If you have no funding, how do you find crew to work on your short film?

(c) tUKe Productions Europe

This week I was sent a very interesting email from Northern Film and Media about a Facbook group which has been set up to help new film makers create low to no budget short films.

What is the group?

In a bid to help productions with a low or no budget the Facebook group for low & no budget film makers has been set up.

"If you are involved in low to no budget film making or are interested in working on one for experience or credit please feel free to join.

I know not everyone approves of unpaid work - if you don't approve then this group is not for you!"

Should I work for free?

If  you love to create content. If you don't mind mucking in on fun creative projects. Plus you want some first hand experience of the film industry and short films this group could be for you.

Always look after yourself when working for free! Don't get taken for a ride. If everyone is working for free on a non-commercial project or you are being properly trained, looked after and gaining valuable experience: working for free can be a great opportunity.

Good News from the UK Radio Industry

Bad news seems to travel fast and frequently, that's why here at The MYOB Show we love to share good news. Today is one of those days where we get the chance to share some really great news...

Radio legend John Myers released an autobiography earlier this year.

The book is called...

 Which is nice of course...

But what's the good news?

A percentage of the profits of the book are set to benefit three charities, each getting a share of ten thousand pounds (according to radiotoday.co.uk).

Now that's some of the best news to come out of the radio industry in many years.

Who will benefit?

"John is donating profits from the book to the Radio Academy, organisers of The Radio Festival and Radio Academy Awards, Radio Tyneside, where he is currently the Chair and The British Lung Foundation, in memory of John’s mother".

 -radiotoday.co.uk

That great news not only for Radio Tyneside who do a brilliant job serving the hospital and local community in Newcastle and Gateshead.

It's also great news for the Radio Academy who tirelessly and pretty much single handily offer nationwide training for newbies to the UK commercial radio industry.

The money generated by the book should enable The Radio Academy continue to help young up and coming talent get a foot on the media career ladder while also helping those already in the business progress further.

Team, It’s Only Radio! is a brilliant combination of stories about life as a radio DJ and an instruction manual on how to be the boss of a multi-million pound company."
