Good news for those of us who have a mainly mobile audience?

Find out more on The MYOB Show

According to Phil Wilkinson-Jones from cable.co.ukBoth EE and Three last week signed a long-term national framework agreement with fibre optic infrastructure provider CityFibre to overhaul their networks using dark fibre.”

But why should we care? Well the new dark fibre infrastructure should allow for faster upload, download, streaming and general web browsing speeds on devices linked to the mobile network. Not only in the big cities but also in suburban and rural areas too.

Which means that your audience may soon be able to enjoy your content in it's highest quality in the house or on the move, in the city or in the country.

Now that really is good news!
The show is presented by Dom O'Neill a creative business man and talk radio host. Dom has over 10 year experience working in the broadcast media and received a Masters Degree in Radio Production and Management from The University of Sunderland in 2012.

Can You Really Fine Someone for Leaving a Bad Review?

Keep up to date with the latest tech, Social media and digital content creation news...

Listen to The MYOB Show!

The online digital world is regulated by user reviews these days.

When people buy anything online (from a hotel room to a fridge) before any payment is made most people look at customer reviews.

This is a pretty useful tool for customers and companies... if folks take constructive criticism well

However one hotel owner has decided to take a huff with a couple who left him a bad review on Tripadvisor.

This my friends is not the way to deal with a bad review.

Remember: when in doubt don't scream and shout! Get in contact with the person with the problem and see if you can work out a solution to get them to take down their bad review.

Is TV set to become the second screen?

Broadcasting online could soon be the new norm here in the UK.

Find out more on The MYOB Show

According to @ianpau of pcworld.com “Mobile analytics and advertising firm Flurry released a report on Tuesday that says Americans spend close to 10 minutes more per day on mobile devices than sitting in front of a television.”

Big woop you may say... we are not in America. That is of course true (unless you are reading this in the US & if you are, thanks for joining me).

However when it come to tech and audience trends the UK often follows close to the US model (if not a couple of month or years behind).

So the trend of the second screen becoming the main screen could well be a reality here in the UK too.

Now is most definitely the time to get involved in online broadcasting because money follows where audience goes. Once the big money comes to online broadcast indie content creators may well find it harder to make their mark.

The show is presented by Dom O'Neill a creative business man and talk radio host. Dom has over 10 year experience working in the broadcast media and received a Masters Degree in Radio Production and Management from The University of Sunderland in 2012.

The MYOB Show for Week Ending 14.11.2014

On The MYOB Show this week we find out the weeks biggest social media, tech, digital content creation and online broadcasting news.

Headlines

Facebook is now allowing it's UK users to choose what ads they want to see. Which is a nice idea to allow users the chance to have more control over the ads on their time line. However as tech web site engadget.com points out "Facebook can also use your feedback to learn more about your likes and dislikes."

According to an article on the techcrunch.com a report by OFCOM has found that the UK mobile operator "EE has fastest downloads but Three is best for web browsing".

Plus in other mobile news low-cost mobile operator GiffGaff has finally joined the 4G.

And finally film star Jennifer Lawrence has said she "will never get Twitter" on BBC radio 1. Is this a one off or are stars getting tired of being in the spot light 24/7?... only time will tell

Want to Publish Your Content on Facebook?

Facebook wants you to publish your content on their platform (not linking to your platform from theirs but actually your content fully published on the Facebook platform).

Why would you do that?

Advertising is one answer, you would have access to Facebook's massive audience and it's sizeable and impressive advertising infrastructure. However according to technorati.com “The revenue from those ads would be shared with the publisher, although details of the split are yet to be fully determined.”

So how much you get is a mystery.

businessinsider.com also covered the story and interviewed News UK CMO Chris Duncan, he said

“It’s like handing over the keys to all the things digital publishers are good at. We’d lose visibility of our usage and visibility of our audience,”

So the initial promise of unspecified ad revenue is currently not enough to persuade all online content creators that publishing on Facebook makes proper financial sense.

Have you left it too late to make a success out of YouTube?

Have you ever wanted to make a living out of creating TV shows for YouTube?

If so, you may need to jump on that band waggon sooner than you think as the big boys are buying up the market at an alarming rate.

This week it was reviled (on the Telegraph web site) that "BSkyB has invested $7m (£4.3m) in Whistle Sports, an American start-up that runs a sports network on YouTube".

Plus Google has announced that it will split up music from it's other content to take on Spotify and it also plans to create a subscription based YouTube channel similar Netflix.

However according to telegraph.co.uk “The free-to-use, ad-funded service is expected to continue alongside the subscription version".

With more and more of the big broadcasters investing in YouTube and other online OnDemand Digital platforms and with more controls and structure being invested in Youtube as a platform it's looking like it's now or never for small independent content creators.

Historically (in broadcasting)with greater control and structure comes a higher barrier to entry.

Will the changes make it harder for those who want to make their mark in an increasingly busy digital market?

Could we see smaller indie producers being pushed out of the market by the big boys and girls with larger production and distribution budgets?

Only time will tell.

Want to keep up to date with the constantly changing digital world?

Would You Pay for YouTube?

Google has announced that it will create a subscription based YouTube channel similar to Spotify or Netflix.

According to telegraph.co.uk "It is not known how much Google would charge for an ad-free subscription to YouTube or exactly when it would launch. The free-to-use, ad-funded service is expected to continue alongside the subscription version".

This is exciting news and could go two ways for us content creators. Could this change allow quality indie-content producers to make more money out of the service (while also giving YouTube and Google a good living)?

Or could this lead to smaller indie producers being pushed out of the market by the big boys with larger production and distribution budgets?

It's too early to tell, however I always find it pays to be positive and if nothing else a subscription YouTube will make for an exciting change to an increasing interesting online content creation and distribution market.

Want to avoid download disappointment when you're out and about?!

Great news for those of use who live and work online (but don't have the luxury of being in the office from 9 to 5).

According to the BBC website "The UK has one wi-fi hotspot for every 11 people" which puts us in the UK towards the top of the pile when it comes to public wi-fi.

France has the most hotspots, followed by the US and UK. The estimated world average will be 20 hotspots per person by 2020 according to the BBC which puts us in the UK well ahead of the game.

However they all belong to different companies and need logins, passwords and sometimes payments to be able to access them.

Which is why 4G internet is so handy, you pay once and you can use 4G everywhere. However in some areas (such as London) 4G can be painfully slow.

Help is at hand... We'll for those of us lucky enough to live in selected cities.

According to the BBC web site "The whole of EE's 4G London network should be upgraded for 4G+”. Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester should be upgraded later in 2015.

4G+ is a much faster version of 4G which should help up download and streaming speeds in those areas.

Which added to the multiple wi-fi hotspots should make working on the move a much faster, more efficient and more enjoyable.

Keep up with what you need to succeed in the digital age...
